About the Jain temple rules regd women

A lot of Jain temples have idiotic clothing rules... They are idiotic because they don't solve any purpose except random whims.

The rule basically is that women need to wear shalwar kameez or saree in temple or they cannot enter.
The rule can be an attempt towards only two purposes,
1. To keep things traditional , inculcate Indianness in community.
In which case the men need to be told to wear Indian clothes more. Pant/shirt is not Indian. Kurta/pyjama or dhoti/ Kurta are Indian wear. So if their emphasis is to bring Indian culture then how dare u target only women? Prolly because all the men are pant shirt wearing older folk while the women are saree wearing older women.

Second reason could be,
2. To avoid indecent exposure, in which case the way saree shows my belly and back none of my western wear do that! Other places like Xaviers college and courts etc... Have rules about wearing ankle length and with sleeve clothes no one insists on a saree or salwar dress. And a saree does not stop someone who wants to wear revealing in the least .... So what's the point? Idiots, will just alienate younger gen.

The Thing about Discrimination

is that,
1. There are people being discriminated against - these guys have a bad time
2. There are people being discriminated for - these guys have a good time
3. Usually there are people who have moved from one category to the other and they are the ones that usually know what discrimination is all about - rest of the folk take whatever they get as granted. The trodden upon have lost hope for equality while the treaders are insulated well to be very comfortable with the lack of equality.

the MNP Debacle

So we now have MNP in India and a lot of people I know have shifted their service providers. My experience with MNP has so far been absurd.

My airtel network had disappeared from my house so decided I have to shift now... cause Airtel had not managed to solve it in 20 days and how much could I wait?
Got a call from Vodafone with a very good scheme so opted for it and sent out a Port request. More than 3 times to two different vodafone people I asked how should I clear my dues with Airtel? Don't I have to clear anything out with them? They all just said nothing, nothing.... gave no particular response.

then I called Airtel folk and the woman said I needed to pay them 10paise as it was pending from last bill amount so I paid that money. She told me there no other issue for porting.

in two days got the message "Porting request rejected" No idea why and frankly I was just not interested in doing any more inqury as I had another temporary vodafone number...

then Voila I saw that the Airtel network was back as it had been before - so now I did not need to port!! Don't know whether they solved the issue because I have opted for porting!

Later Airtel person called told me to close my Porting request by sending a CPR message. I said ok. Sent the message. So my PORTing request was closed. I thought that was the end of it.

Except yesterday I got a message saying my porting request has been accepted, I need to wait for further instructions from Vodafone!! <---- what just happened??!!

Anyway so thats the crazy state of MNP....

Spirituality Trends

So the other day I went to listen to swami Kriyananda of the Yogananda path. I had seen him on Aastha and liked him. Jovial person rambling on....
I was really surprised to hear about God v/s Satan and things like that. Used to Sadhguru from ISha Foundation I know he never talks such stuff in the old religious fuddy duddy way (not that Sw. kriyananda was fuddy duddy.)

The point is that Spiritual teachings have trends. In Yogananda's time and Sw. K (he is quite old!) they were talking to people steeped and at the same time frustrated with religious beliefs. Hence they took those beliefs and gave it a more sensible touch. It worked with those folks.

Consequently with our generation this sort of teaching has lost its appeal. talking to youngsters of god and satan won't work! Its crazy talk! So nowadays spiritual teachings are on the lines of practical/real-life anecdotes. More about sensible and intelligent approach to things rather than a belief based one.

One person strikes out is Osho. Osho's writings are so apt for todays times and yet he was from the previous generation - guess this is being a true revolutionary! All our parents look to him aghast...

Just some views.

My comment on a sarcy article on Chandrayaan #astronomy

If you feel so much for the poor of the country, why don't you stop writing these articles and go work for the hungry poor in the rural India?? I don't see any thing good you are doing by writing these articles but probably you do and so would a few others. Well so that is the same for the Indian space research - probably you dont see any value in it, maybe you flunked your physics exams in school and are just pissed about it now but that does not mean no one sees any worth in it. I do.

You are so sarcastic about Indians throwing the flag on the moon, yea do you know what it takes to actually plant it?? You probably do because you compare the feat doable by a country like switzerland. Is it doable by other developing countries? Lets be realistic about which league India comes from and that it has now joined space faring nations by its own maiden mission. Not collaborated with someone else.

Do you know how much money would come in if we take payloads for other countries up in space?? Do you know the various breakthroughs that have come in science in varied fields including medicine from experiments conducted in space?? Does technological advancement mean anything to you?? Maybe you should research on these lines.

Or are we declaring all the countries that have space missions US, Japan, Russia, Europe and others to be free of all human suffering and problems?? Are they heaven?? Cause despite all there society problems they are still shelling out a lot of money to fund their space research. Or will we soon see such posts on them too?

My Top 3 - 2011 Movies

Past few days have been watching 2011 movies I missed, I still have a few to watch,

My favs,

Kung Fu Panda 2
This one totally rocked. I was in splits laughing.

The Adventures of tintin
Again quite funny. This is in favs cause it was so cool watching Tintin movie! I re-read the whole Tintin comic series after that.

Thor
Again I liked this movie as it brought to life a comic character. Thor's character and charishma really made it worth the watch. Story line with the bridge bring broken and all was cool. Though I din't know Loki was a frost giant! I mean he was normal sized as other Asgardians....

Still have a few more to watch including Limitless, Horrible Bosses and Cowboys&Aliens

The things that aren't Right

When u want something done, and u cant seem to get it done. Do something that matters to you.
Often people keep wanting to quit smoking and they never can... The better thing to do is get nto sports or enjoyable activity. Gradually the addiction to smoke would reduce. Lot of people keep whining about not being able to do something. They keep 'trying'. The solution that can work is to quit trying to do it instead do something u really like ... Be happy and in that mindset u will end up effortlessly doing that other thing too....

Most of the times we dont end up doing all the things we want to is because we are telling ourselves its the 'right' or 'good' thing to do... And this thinking is BORING! Either motivate with exciting reasons or just do things that flare up your passion and life withn you cause when you are happy life is just better. Then it doesn't matter if you haven't done that one thing or if that thing matters you will be empowered by happiness to do it!

:D
